Summit Music Festival’s annual CONCERTO COMPETITION offers students a special challenge and an opportunity for public recognition. All students are encouraged to compete. Participants must be fully registered students (2 weeks or longer) in the SMF individual instrumental program. Students enrolled in the Chamber Music Pre-formed Group ONLY program are not eligible. Those under age 16 will have the OPTION to select which division to compete in. Students may only compete in ONE division.
REQUIREMENTS:
Senior Division (Age 16 to 35)*
Contenders are required to play a concerto of their choice. The competition consists of two rounds – 1) playing the first movement, and 2) playing the entire concerto. All selections must be memorized.
* must not be represented by management agency
Junior Division (Under Age 16)
Contenders must be under age 16 and notify the faculty by August 3 that they will compete in the junior division. The student is required to play a movement from a concerto of his or her choice. All selections must be memorized.
PRIZES:
Senior Division (Ages 16 to 35)
- 1st Prize
$1000 cash award and solo concerto performance with the Festival Orchestra
in 2013 concert series
- 2nd Prize
$500 cash award and solo recital in the Summit Music Festival’s 2013 concert series
- 3rd Prize
$250 cash award and special mention in the final program of the 2013 Festival
Junior Division (Under Age 16)
- 1st Prize
$250 cash award and solo performance with the Festival Orchestra in 2013 concert series
- 2nd Prize
$150 cash award and special mention in the final program of the 2013 Festival
- 3rd Prize
$75 cash award and special mention in the final program of the 2013 Festival
